What the AI keeps, and what it won't make up

An AI resume builder is only worth using if you can trust what comes out. ResumeInk's AI reads the file you upload and keeps your facts as they are: employers, job titles, dates, degrees, the numbers you wrote and the order of your career. It doesn't add jobs you never held, skills you never listed or results you never mentioned.

• What changes: the design, the spacing and the way sections are laid out, plus the wording of any line you ask it to improve.
• What stays: who you worked for, what your title was, when you were there and what you achieved.
• What's left to you: any figure your resume doesn't already contain. If a bullet says you “reduced errors”, only you know by how much.

That last point matters more than any template. Specific lines do the persuading on a resume, and an honest tool can't supply specifics it was never given. Before and after: three bullets, sharpened

First drafts tend to describe duties. Ask the AI to improve a line and it puts the action first, trims filler and keeps your facts. The examples below show a typical result, then a third version with a detail only the writer could add.

• Sales. Weak: “Responsible for handling key accounts in the north region.” Improved: “Managed key accounts across the north region.” With your detail: “Managed 18 key accounts across the north region and renewed 16 of them in 2025.”
• Software. Weak: “Worked on the search module and fixed a lot of bugs.” Improved: “Maintained the search module and fixed defects reported against it.” With your detail: “Maintained the search module; fixed 40+ reported defects and brought average query time under 300 ms.”
• Operations. Weak: “Helped with inventory and did stock checks.” Improved: “Supported inventory control and carried out stock checks.” With your detail: “Ran weekly stock checks across 3 warehouses and kept recorded stock within 1% of physical counts.”

The improved lines read better, but they're still general. They give you a cleaner sentence to build on, and the finished line arrives when you add the scale, the result or the time frame. Fit your resume to a job ad

Once you're signed in, you can paste a job ad and have the AI compare it with your resume. Here's how that goes for a reporting analyst role that asks for SQL, Power BI, Excel and “reporting to senior stakeholders”:

1. Paste the whole ad, including the requirements and the nice-to-haves, not just the job title.
2. Check the match. You see which of the ad's skills and terms your resume already covers and which it doesn't. Say yours mentions SQL and “dashboards” but never names Power BI, and your reporting work sits in your oldest role.
3. Tailor it. The AI suggests wording for this job: naming the tool you actually used, giving the reporting work more weight and adjusting the summary to the role.
4. Read every change. Keep what's true and edit out anything that isn't. If you've never used a tool the ad lists, the honest fix is to leave it off.

A cover letter drafted from the same resume

Plenty of applications still ask for a cover letter, and starting one from a blank page often takes longer than the resume did. Treat the draft as a first pass. Before you send it:

• Name the company and the role near the top, and give one specific reason this job interests you.
• Pick the one or two results from your resume that fit this role best, instead of retelling everything.
• Delete any sentence that could sit in anyone's letter.
• Keep it to a single page; three or four short paragraphs is enough.

After the rebuild: a five-minute check

Every source file is different. A phone photo taken at an angle, a Word file built from tables or a PDF exported from an old template can each trip up the reading in small ways. Before you polish any wording, spend five minutes on the facts:

• Header: your name spelled right, a phone number with country code, an email you check, your city and LinkedIn.
• Dates: every role has a start and an end, written in one consistent format.
• Titles and employers: each on the right line and not swapped.
• Bullets: none merged into one long line or broken in the middle of a sentence.
• Odd sections: publications, volunteering or languages should sit in their own section. If there's no standard one for it, add a custom section with a plain heading.

Then try two or three of the 260 resume designs; switching keeps every word in place. Run the ATS check last, so the score reflects the version you'll actually send.
