Android hiring managers want three answers fast: which apps you have shipped, how many people use them, and whether you write modern Kotlin. A clear Android developer resume puts your Play Store apps and their scale up front, names your architecture and libraries, and shows results in crash rates, ratings, startup time or release pace. Below are formats by seniority, what employers value in each country, summary and bullet examples, and the keywords Android ads repeat. Already have a resume? Upload it as a PDF, Word file or photo and ResumeInk rebuilds it as an editable design.
Use reverse-chronological order on one page until roughly seven years of experience. Two pages are reasonable for senior or lead developers who have owned several apps or a mobile platform team. Put a link to your Play Store developer page or best app in the header, next to GitHub.
Section order: header, summary, technical skills, experience, published apps, education. Published apps deserve their own heading because they are your evidence. In the ResumeInk editor you can add a custom section called Published apps, with the app name, your role, installs or rating, and the year.
For layout, Developer stack gives technical skills and projects room, and Compact header turns a long library list into a few lines of chips. Leave phone mock-ups off the resume itself: an ATS can't read text inside pictures, and a store link does the job better. More options are on the developer resume template page.
What to include in an Android developer resume
Summary: years on Android, Kotlin or Java, the kind of apps (fintech, retail, health, media) and one number such as monthly users or crash rate.
Skills: languages, UI toolkit (Jetpack Compose or XML views), architecture, async, networking, storage, testing and build tools.
Experience: features shipped, app size and startup time, crash rate, ratings, release cadence, and migrations such as Java to Kotlin or views to Compose.
Published apps: name, link, your part and installs or rating, if the app is public.
Cross-platform work: Flutter or Kotlin Multiplatform if you have shipped with it, kept below your native Android depth.
Scale and context: monthly active users, the oldest Android version you support and the devices you test on, if they shaped your work.
Education and extras: degree, diploma or bootcamp, plus open-source libraries or talks.
Android Developer certifications and credentials by country
No country licenses Android developers, and there is no certification employers routinely filter on. If you hold Google's Associate Android Developer certificate, list it with the year; otherwise your published apps and code are the credential. What changes by country is the product context employers want to see:
India: apps that run well on low-cost phones and patchy networks, small download size, regional languages, UPI and wallet integrations, and consent handling under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023. A B.Tech, B.E., BCA or MCA is still a common filter.
US: accessibility and privacy; health or children's apps can bring HIPAA or COPPA requirements, so mention them if you built for them.
UK: UK GDPR and consent for analytics and ad SDKs; state your right to work.
Australia and Canada: state your work rights; banking, health and government apps often ask for accessibility and privacy experience.
Everywhere, Google Play's own rules count as real experience: target API level updates, the Data safety form and policy reviews. If you kept an app compliant, say so.
Android Developer resume summary examples
Entry level: Android developer with a B.Tech in computer science and two self-published apps on Google Play, built in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, Room and Retrofit; the expense tracker has 8,000 installs and a 4.5 rating. Completed a six-month internship fixing crashes and writing UI tests.
Mid level: Android developer with five years in fintech, shipping Kotlin and Compose features to an app with 3 million monthly users. Cut the share of sessions that crash from 1.4% to 0.2%, sped up cold start by 40% and moved the team to fortnightly releases.
Senior: Senior Android engineer with 10 years across retail and media apps, leading five developers on an app with 10 million installs. Led the modularisation of a 400,000-line codebase and the move from XML views to Jetpack Compose, and set up the release and testing process both mobile teams use.
Keep the app's scale and your part in it separate: the installs belong to the product, the migration belonged to you. For the one-line title under your name, see resume headline examples.
Android Developer resume bullet point examples
Cut crashing sessions from 1.4% to 0.2% by fixing the top 20 Crashlytics issues and adding ANR monitoring; the Play Store rating rose from 3.9 to 4.5.
Cut cold start time by 40% with Baseline Profiles, lazy initialisation and the removal of two heavy SDKs.
Rebuilt the sign-up flow in Jetpack Compose on a single-activity MVVM architecture, cutting drop-off at the address step by 18%.
Shrank the download from 48 MB to 21 MB with Android App Bundles, R8 and WebP images, helping installs on low-storage phones.
Added offline mode with Room and WorkManager so field agents could log 5,000+ visits a day without a signal.
Moved 70% of a Java codebase to Kotlin and coroutines over nine months with no rise in crash rate.
Built a CI pipeline with GitHub Actions, unit tests and Firebase Test Lab, moving releases from monthly to every two weeks.
Integrated UPI intent flows and a wallet SDK handling 1.2 million transactions a month.
Play Console and Crashlytics figures are ideal: a hiring manager knows exactly what they mean, and you can quote them without revealing revenue.
Skills & ATS keywords for Android developer resumes
Android ads are specific about the modern toolkit, while ads for older apps still mention Java and XML. Use the exact names:
Languages: Kotlin, Java, coroutines, Flow, C++ through the NDK if relevant
UI: Jetpack Compose, XML layouts, Material Design 3, ViewModel, Navigation
Architecture: MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture, modularisation, dependency injection with Hilt, Dagger or Koin
Data and networking: Retrofit, OkHttp, Room, DataStore, WorkManager, Apollo GraphQL, Firebase
Quality: JUnit, Espresso, Compose UI tests, MockK, Firebase Crashlytics, Firebase Test Lab, Android Studio Profiler
Build and release: Gradle (Kotlin DSL), Android App Bundles, R8, Play Console, GitHub Actions or Bitrise, fastlane
Soft skills: working with designers and backend teams, code review, owning releases
If an ad lists Java and XML views, the app probably has older code; show that you can maintain it as well as modernise it. Run your resume against the ad in the ATS resume checker to see which terms are missing.
Common Android developer resume mistakes
No link to a live app. A store link or short demo video is stronger evidence than a list of libraries. If your apps are internal, describe users and scale instead.
Only the old toolkit. A resume that mentions AsyncTask and nothing newer reads as dated. Show Kotlin, coroutines and Compose if you use them; if you maintain a legacy app, say what you modernised.
Features without impact. "Implemented push notifications" says little. Add opt-in rate, engagement or retention.
Claiming the whole app. Ten million installs belong to the product. Say which screens, modules or migrations were yours.
Screenshots and phone frames on the page. They take space and an ATS reads nothing in them. Keep visuals in your portfolio, and see other resume mistakes that get candidates rejected.
How do I write an Android developer resume with no experience?
Build and publish one or two apps on Google Play, then lead your resume with them: the stack, installs or rating, and a link. Add internships, hackathons or open-source fixes, and keep it to one page.
Should I list Kotlin or Java on an Android resume?
List Kotlin first if you use it, since most new Android code is written in Kotlin. Keep Java too if you have real experience, because many companies still maintain Java code.
Should an Android developer resume include Flutter or React Native?
Yes, if you have shipped with them, on a separate cross-platform line. Keep native Android first when you apply for Android roles so the reader sees your depth.
Is a Play Store link enough, or do I need GitHub too?
A live app is strong evidence, but reviewers also like to read code. Add GitHub if you have a public repository with clean code and a README; if all your code is private, explain your architecture choices in your bullets.
Do Android developers need a certification?
No certification is required, and employers rarely filter on one. Published apps, Kotlin experience and the scale of what you shipped carry far more weight.
