Free Simple Resume Template

A simple resume template gives you a clean page, standard headings and nothing else to fuss over, so your time goes into what you write. It is the basic resume format most people need: contact details, a short summary, experience or projects, skills and education. It suits freshers, students, first jobs and anyone who needs a neat resume quickly. In India, where many people look for a simple resume format, it works well for campus placements, walk-in interviews and private-sector jobs.

What counts as a simple resume

A simple resume is one where nothing needs explaining. There is one column, read from top to bottom. Headings use plain words: Summary, Experience, Projects, Skills, Education. The type is easy to read, the colour is black or one quiet shade, and there are no icons or graphics.

It differs from a minimalist resume template in purpose. Minimalism is a design choice, tuned for white space and type. A simple resume is a practical choice: quick to fill in, easy to update and familiar to every recruiter. It also beats a plain document typed from scratch, because the spacing, alignment and margins are already done for you.

A simple resume format usually runs in this order:

Who a simple resume suits, and when to choose something else

Simple is the right default for many people:

In India, freshers often add a career objective, academic scores such as CGPA or percentage, and a declaration line at the end. The declaration is optional; include it if an employer asks. In the US, UK, Canada and Australia, leave out date of birth, marital status and a photo.

When should you go beyond simple? If you are mid-career or senior, a professional resume template adds a little more polish. If you need to show a lot on one page, a denser layout such as Compact header helps.

Simple resumes are the easiest for ATS to read

Hiring software has the least trouble with exactly what a simple resume offers: one column, standard section names, dates written the same way every time, and plain text. There is no side column to untangle, no icon to guess at and no table to split apart.

Simple does not mean careless, though. A few habits keep a basic resume readable for people and parsers alike:

ResumeInk's simple designs are checked in ATS text extraction like all 260, so the text a parser pulls out matches what you see, in the same order. The ATS score in the editor shows how readable your resume is before you download it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best simple resume format for freshers?

One column, with a short summary or objective, then education, projects and internships, then skills. Keep education near the top until you have a full-time job to lead with.

Should I add a declaration and personal details to my resume?

In India some employers still ask for a declaration, date of birth or a photo, so follow what the job posting asks. In the US, UK, Canada and Australia, leave them out.

Is a simple resume less impressive than a designed one?

Not usually. What you have done, and how clearly you show it, matters more than decoration. A clean, simple layout often reads better than a busy one and is easier for hiring software to parse.

Can I make a simple resume without an old resume to upload?

Yes. Start from a sample in ResumeInk, click any text to replace it with your own, and hide the sections you do not need.
