Python job ads cover very different work: web backends in Django or FastAPI, data pipelines, test automation and scripting. A strong Python developer resume makes clear which of these you do, names the libraries you ship with and shows the results in numbers. Use the summaries, bullet examples and keyword lists below. Then upload your current resume as a PDF, Word file or photo, and ResumeInk's AI rebuilds it in a clean design you can edit line by line.
Keep a Python developer resume to one page up to about five years of experience, and two pages after that only if the second page carries real detail. In the UK and India it is often called a CV; the content is the same. Use reverse-chronological order: summary, skills, experience, projects, education.
Decide your lane before you write. A backend developer should lead with Django, FastAPI, APIs and databases; an automation or data-engineering profile with Airflow, pandas and scheduled jobs. Mixing everything into one list makes your focus hard to see. If your work is mostly models and statistics, the data scientist resume template is the better guide, and for general engineering roles see the software engineer resume template.
Put GitHub in the header. Python work is easy to show, and a tidy repository with tests, type hints and a README backs up your bullets. A single-column layout keeps library names and versions readable for people and parsers alike.
What to include in a Python developer resume
Header: name, city, email, phone, GitHub and LinkedIn. In the UK or Australia, add your right-to-work status if an employer will need to sponsor a visa.
Summary: your lane (backend, automation, data engineering), years of experience, main framework and one result.
Skills: Python version, frameworks, data stores, testing, cloud and tooling, in labelled groups.
Experience: APIs built, jobs automated, response or run times, test coverage, hours saved for other teams.
Projects and open source: a package published on PyPI, merged pull requests to a library you use, or a deployed side project with real users.
Education: degree and year; BCA, MCA, bootcamps and self-taught routes are all common.
Certifications (optional): the Python Institute's PCEP and PCAP help freshers prove the basics. Experienced developers usually gain more from an AWS, Azure or Google Cloud certificate. List them with the year.
Python Developer resume summary examples
Name your lane in the first few words so the reader knows which kind of Python work you mean.
Entry level: "Python developer and BSc Computer Science graduate. Built a FastAPI booking service with PostgreSQL and pytest (85% coverage) during a placement year, and maintain a small open-source CLI tool with 300 GitHub stars. Ready for a junior backend role."
Mid level: "Backend Python developer with 6 years in Django and FastAPI for health-data products. Built APIs serving 1.2M requests a day, cut report generation from 40 minutes to 3 with Celery, and moved the team to typed, tested code with mypy and pytest."
Senior: "Senior Python engineer with 10 years across web backends and data platforms. Led a 7-person team that rebuilt an ingestion platform on Airflow and AWS, processing 2 TB a day at a 99.9% job success rate. Sets coding standards and reviews architecture."
Python Developer resume bullet point examples
Good Python bullets name the framework, the size of the job and what got better.
Built a FastAPI service with async SQLAlchemy that handles 1.2M requests a day at a p95 of 120 ms, replacing a Flask app that needed three times the servers.
Moved report generation to Celery workers on Redis, cutting a 40-minute export to 3 minutes and ending daily timeouts.
Automated weekly reconciliation of 60,000 supplier invoices with pandas, saving the finance team 25 hours a month.
Raised pytest coverage from 38% to 88% and added mypy type checks in CI, cutting bugs reported after release by 45%.
Designed Airflow DAGs that load 2 TB a day from 40 sources into Snowflake with a 99.9% job success rate.
Upgraded a Django 2.2 codebase on Python 3.6 to Django 4.2 on Python 3.11 with zero downtime and 25% faster average response times.
Packaged shared tooling as a versioned internal library used by 12 teams, with documentation built in Sphinx.
During a placement year, wrote a pytest suite of 300 end-to-end checks that runs on every pull request in 9 minutes.
Skills & ATS keywords for Python developer resumes
Python ads are specific about frameworks and versions. Mirror them when they are true for you, and leave data-science libraries out if the role is pure backend. If you work mainly in automation or data engineering, move that group to the top.
Language: Python 3.10+, asyncio, type hints, mypy, Pydantic, packaging with Poetry or uv
Web frameworks: Django, Django REST Framework, FastAPI, Flask, SQLAlchemy, Alembic
Data & automation: pandas, NumPy, Airflow, Celery, Requests, BeautifulSoup, Scrapy
Soft skills: clear documentation, code review, explaining trade-offs to non-engineers
Common Python developer resume mistakes
"Python" with no context. Say what you built with it: APIs, ETL jobs, test suites, internal tools.
Data-science padding. TensorFlow and scikit-learn from one online course distract from your real stack on a backend resume.
No sign of code quality. Tests, typing, linting and code review separate a developer from someone who writes scripts. Mention them.
Python 2 work up front. If your newest bullet mentions Python 2.7, show the move to Python 3 or move the bullet down.
Scripts with no outcome. "Wrote automation scripts" says little; "saved the finance team 25 hours a month" says a lot.
An untested file. See how your resume reads as plain text with the ATS resume checker before you send it. Tables and text boxes made in a word processor can jumble the reading order.
How do I write a Python developer resume as a fresher?
Put projects above experience: two or three deployed or well-tested projects with a GitHub link, the framework you used and what they do. Add internships, placements and any PCEP or PCAP certificate, and keep it to one page.
Should I list Django and Flask if the job only asks for FastAPI?
Yes, briefly, because they show you know Python web frameworks in general. Put FastAPI first and give it a bullet with a result if you have used it.
Are Python certifications useful on a resume?
PCEP and PCAP from the Python Institute can help a fresher prove the basics. After a couple of years, real projects and cloud certifications usually carry more weight.
Should my resume say Python developer or data engineer?
If most of your work is pipelines, warehouses and orchestration, data engineer is the closer match and the title recruiters search for. If you build web services and APIs, Python developer or backend developer fits better.
